Misconception: Hypnosis is dangerous.
Truth: Hypnosis is safe.
Misconception: Hypnosis is an unnatural state.
Truth: Hypnosis is a natural state.
Misconception: If I don't reorient you, you will remain in trance forever.
Fact: We are in and out of trance all day... every day... since birth.
You might fall asleep and awaken feeling totally refreshed. Or, you would just
naturally reorient yourself as you do normally.
Misconception: In hypnosis you are asleep.
Truth: In hypnosis you are awake and aware.
Misconception: The hypnotherapist does something mysterious, like swinging a pendulum or a watch
until you're 'out of it.'
Truth: The hypnotherapist just talks to you and helps you to relax completely.
Misconception: Once in a trance, you begin to bark like a dog, meow
like a cat, and crow like a rooster.
Truth: You will not do anything you don't want to. You are totally in control.
Misconception: You need a hypnotherapist to 'put' you in trance.
Truth: You go into trance many times a day spontaneously.
Misconception: I can not be hypnotized.
Truth: Everyone can be hypnotized.
Misconception: I won't remember anything from the trance.
Truth: You will hear every word that is said. Even when not actively
listening, whatever is said will go into your unconscious mind.
Misconception: The hypnotherapist can make me do something I don't
want to do.
Truth: In trance the hypnotherapist can not make you do anything you don't
want to do.
Misconception: We have no control over our unconscious mind.
Truth: We are the only one in control of our unconscious mind. What we
say and think... our unconscious mind believes.
Misconception: Being in trance is a sign of weakness.
Truth: Being in trance is a matter of choice... your choice.
